DARYL THOMAS DIXONHEY THERE, THEY CALL ME DARYL AND I'M CURRENTLY THIRTY NINE YEARS OLD. I'M PART OF THE SURVIVORS AND I'VE LIVED THIS LONG FOR A REASON.
-------------------------------------------------
Full Name: Daryl Thomas Dixon Nicknames: Darlena, Dixon. Gender: Male Age: 39 DOB: January 6th, 1973. Sexuality: Straight. Group: Survivors. Canon: Yes. Face Claim: Norman Reedus.
-------------------------------------------------
Traits: - resourceful. - hot temper. - expert tracker/hunter. - loner. - loyal. Personality: Daryl was seen as being just like his brother when they first arrived in Atlanta. He would insult other races, if given the chance. If someone made a remark about Merle or him, he'd immediately jump in their face to defend their pride. Despite being brothers, no one viewed Daryl as bad as Merle. Merle went around the camp looking for trouble, while he kept to himself. Both brothers would go in the forest, hunting animals to keep themselves alive. Keeping his distance from the group, he was never one to volunteer to go out on a run into the city. His only concerns had been his brother and himself. Being the loner for the majority of his life, Daryl has come to rely on himself as being the only one to fully ensure that this outbreak won't get the better of him. Despite keeping to himself, the campers at one point or another, most likely had the thought of shooting him. With the loss of his brother, his personality changed for the better. This was his chance to develop into a better man, judging from what Rick and Carol have said to him. After the group left the city, his true personality started to show through.
Daryl is resourceful in that he can handle himself against walkers with speed and an accurate target. The time on the cliff, he managed to wrap up his side which had an arrow in it previously by ripping the sleeves off of his shirt. He is capable of surviving on his own given the survival skills that he learned as a youngster. In the group now, he is viewed as being someone who has 'honor'. He spent the most time invested in finding Sophia. Daryl has integrated into the group as Rick's right hand man. This being because he has begun offering to go runs to find people. Even with the herd at the farm, he was the first to offer to go after Andrea. He has developed several bonds within the group and learned to accept the different race groups that have been in the group over the time that they have spent together. Daryl can often be found with the group compared to before when he would just keep to himself. This group has become his family in a way that he'll look out for all of them. Despite having a stronger personality compared to when his brother was with him, he still has his moments when he'll go back to his old ways. Such as when he was quite rude to Carol, calling her a stupid bitch when she just trying to help. When someone shows to care for him such as kissing him on the cheek, those walls go up in his mind. To not form an entirely close bond with some of these people, considering he could lose them. Also, he has never felt much affection from anyone through his entire life which is another reason why he recoils back to that former shell of his. This will perhaps continue to be his flaw as he continues his journey along with group. Despite that, a lot of the group could not imagine him not being there now.
History: It was a rough winter as the year of 72 came to a close. The Dixon family had been given the news that they would soon have a second son to take care of. News that was well taken by Sheila Dixon along with Merle, her eldest son. She anticipated having another boy to raise in Johns Creek, Georgia. Sheila was someone with a strong will, meaning she had no problem defending herself against her husband if needbe. Along with that, she had a kind heart unlike her son and husband. Merle, well he was a different story as a kid. A couple of years older than his soon to be brother, he had been in out and of school with suspensions constantly happening. When the news was received that the family would be expecting another boy, he was filled with excitement over the fact of having a younger brother. Someone that he could look after and teach things to, basically wanting to make his younger brother like him. Her husband, Robert Dixon was someone that had grown up in the south. His childhood was rough in the fact that he was abused by both his parents on a daily basis. Receiving the news was a bit of a disappointment to him, it meant another mouth to feed. Money that could be going to his alcoholic habit. Robert started at a young age with the alcohol, having been neglected by his parents. The emotions between the three family members were quite different from each other as January 6th came. Their newest addition was welcomed into the family. Sheila was the one to give the youngest one, the most attention. They chose the name, Daryl for him considering it matched well with his brother's name, Merle. Growing up as a youngster, Daryl mostly had his mother to look after him. It certainly caused Merle to view his brother as being a 'baby', too soft considering he was around their mother quite a bit. At the age of four, their mother died. Sheila was a heavy smoker despite her strong appearance, it was her weakness. She had fallen asleep rather fast, leaving a burning cigarette to fall out of her hand. Unfornuately, a gas leak was present in the room that she had fallen asleep in. Thus, in a matter of minutes, the room was lit up in flames. Sheila Dixon was dead.
With the death of his mother, Daryl was left alone with his brother and father. Merle started to influence his brother to become a 'real man'. He taught him how to view other people that weren't like them. The ideas of religion not being something to believe in, was an idea that Merle passed onto his brother. Being with Merle, he developed a hot temper. Going to school, he started using violence in threatening situations. If someone said something cruel about his family, he would resort to violence. Despite being brothers, Merle would often not show comfort to his brother. If his brother fell, while they were running, he'd laugh at how weak he was. The purpose of things like that were to help him grow tough, out of the weakness that he displayed being around his mother. At the age of seven, Daryl experienced his brother start heading off to juvenile detention. It was in the absence of his wife and eldest son that Robert could finally turn his attention to the youngest boy. Despite being tough as nails to Daryl, Merle would defend his younger brother against Robert. He wouldn't let Robert hit him considering it was his job as the oldest to watch out for his baby brother. Robert started hitting Daryl pretty badly, leaving scars on his back from being hit by a switch or anything Robert could get his hands on. At school, Daryl would spend his time in the library reading about hunting. He thought many times of running away, surviving on his own despite only being seven. The books were about survival skills in the wild as well.
Returning from juvenile detention, Merle returned home though had changed for the worst. Rather than defend Daryl against Robert, he completely ignored him this time around. He was more interested in drugs than bothering to care for his brother anymore. At the time of his return, Daryl was only eight. It wasn't until two years later that Daryl would leave the house. He spent nine days out in the wilderness. During the course of those nine days, he spent his time practicing archery, tracking things, and surviving on his own. After nine days, he walked back into the house and was completely unnoticed by his brother and father. With that, he made a sandwich. With Merle out of the house in the military, he was left by himself with his father during his teen years. Daryl spent these years in the woods, practicing his tracking and hunting skills. He provided for himself with squirrels, possums, and numerous animals. As he grew older, his father was incapable of keeping up with the abuse. The reason being that Daryl could defend himself and most of the time, was out of the house. His highschool years were spent avoiding peer pressure. Many times, he had been offered drugs though refused each time. He had seen the damage in them with his brother using them. Cigarettes? He refused those too given his mother's death. Alcohol? Daryl drank, but not on a consistent basis like his father. Highschool were the years that he spent keeping away from others, a loner. Not too many people became friends with him. As any teenage boy, he did have a girlfriend during the course of highschool. They had lasted for quite some time which was perhaps the only time that Daryl showed any care for someone. The 'weak' side that his brother so despised.
He wasn't the typical romantic type of guy rather keeping the walls up around her. Not much discussion about his family was made. She was like him, a loner that didn't associate with many people. Their relationship lasted outside of highschool and eventually, she lived with him in a small house in the mountains. The small life didn't last long when Merle returned to town from the military. He had been discharged after punching an officer and served in prison. With the return of Merle, Daryl allowed him to stay in the home. Merle abused the girl with cruel words and within two months of him being there, she left. Despite Merle causing things to not work out for Daryl and any short relationships he had, he refused to abandon his brother. Merle wasn't there much for him growing up, but he was still blood. As for his job, Daryl had a task of hunting for numerous families and selling the game. It was mostly to homes nearby that had educated people living in them. This experience enabled him to become better in survival skills over the years. During one of the experiences, he discovered a flower. The Cherokee Rose. It was then that he looked up the information of the flower though found out about the rose involved the trail of tears. Memorizing it, he kept the story in mind each time that he saw the rose. Despite not being the most educated, he was a reader thus why he kept the story in mind. It reminded him of past events that had happened. The years flew by and Merle eventually became the main resident in the house. Daryl spent most of his time in the woods, preferring the outdoors to the indoors. Considering he didn't drive much, he also owned a grey 1973 Ford F-250 pickup truck.
The news hit on the televisions around the town. It was the news of an outbreak. At the present time of the broadcasts, the two brothers were home. They stayed put at first, considering their home was in the mountains, quite a bit of a distance from others. Before the broadcasts went out, there was clips of 'safe' areas to go to. Places that were considered to be the areas to head to, if the area that you currently inhabited became overran with walkers. The two brothers packed up their truck and motorcycle, heading to atlanta. Along the way, they stopped by their father's home to check on his status. He had turned though was shot in the head by someone else besides his sons. Someone that had ransacked the house for supplies. Despite all the abuse given to him, Daryl wasn't happy about the death at all. Considering, he was still family. The two brothers relied on each other to survive on the way to Atlanta. This meant that they looked out for each other. They didn't manage to join along with anyone. Both brothers turned down any offers for them to join any groups. Mainly because of race differences, something Merle believed heavily in. Arriving outside of Atlanta, the two were stopped by a group of people, full of different races and histories. They were told that the city was overrun though they had a camp outside of the city. Somewhere considered safe from the walkers for now. Merle made the wrong impression on the group, insulting them right away. Daryl was the one to reason with Merle that they were running out of supplies and could use more than just the two of them. Thus the start of the two brothers being with the group.
Daryl rarely socialized with the group, staying in the background. He wasn't one to offer to go on runs either with the group into the city, not seeing it to be his problem. His time with the group was spent tracking animals and killing them for food. Merle did this as well though socialized with the group in a negative way. Often when someone would badmouth about Merle, Daryl would defend him. A perfect reason for someone to say, 'we have all wanted to shoot daryl at one point or another'. Things in the group changed with the arrival of Rick Grimes. Daryl didn't care much to greet the cop, too focused on a deer which was half devoured by a walker. It wasn't until Rick told him that Merle had been left that he offered to go into the city. T-Dog, Glenn, Rick, and himself traveled back into the city for Merle though all that was left of Merle, was his hand which he had managed to cut off. This set something off in Daryl, he threatened T-Dog with his crossbow. Rick threatening him with his gun, held him off of shooting an arrow in the man's head. After the disappearance of Merle, walkers began to overtake the camp, killing several of the group members in the process. Daryl returned with the group and helped kill the walkers that were attacking the group. With the deaths, the group decided to try the CDC. Unfornuately, they only found Dr. Jenner. A few days of hot showers, booze, and electricity were a nice treat before the building was blown to hell.
The group decided to move forward to Fort Benning though they stopped on a highway. On the highway, they ran into a small herd of walkers. Despite leaving his brother on the top of a building chained up, Daryl helped save T-Dog's life in this encounter with the small herd. However this small change in his personality wasn't significant enough. The loss of Sophia. She had been with Rick in the woods with two walkers following them. Rick left her side for a minute and she was gone. He enlisted Daryl's help to track where she had gone to. Unfornuately they came up with nothing on the first day. They went out again, gutting a walker to ensure it hadn't attacked Sophia. No results once again. The group heard church bells thus they headed to a church where some walkers were seated inside. It was an easy kill in the church. Turning the programmed bells off, the group went into the woods, continuing the search for Sophia with Daryl tracking. During this, Carl was shot by a hunter, while looking at a deer thus the group ended up at Hershel's farm. During this time, Daryl went out on his own, searching for Sophia. In that search, he found a cherokee rose which he gave to Carol, explaining the meaning of it. After this, he went out searching for her using the horse 'Nelly' without permission from Hershel. He ended up getting thrown off the horse and down a hill, landing on one of his arrows which ended up in his side. He attempted to climb up the cliff with the arrow still in his side though he fell down and lost consciousness. Hallucinating, he began to see his brother, Merle who was mocking him. Finally waking up, Daryl woke to discover a walker gnawing on his shoe.
Killing the walker with a stick, another walker approached him. He pulled the arrow out of his side and managed to get it in his crossbow to shoot at it. With the death of the walkers, he cut the ears off of them and made a cloth necklace with them to put around his neck. He also bandaged up his wound from the arrow and climbed up the cliff, along with hallucinating Merle still. Daryl made it back to the camp with a limp and with a blood soaked appearance. Upon returning, he was mistaken for a walker by Andrea and a bullet grazed the left side of his head. Despite the injuries acquired, Daryl managed to find the doll that belonged to Sophia. Carol showed care for him during this time, thanking him for looking for her daughter. Between this time and the time that Sophia was found, Daryl recovered from the wounds though still had pain in his side from the arrow. Relentless, he insisted on going to search for Sophia with another horse though stopped when Carol showed care about him, not wanting him to go out when he was injured still. Soon after, Sophia is found to be a walker in the barn at Hershel's farm. Before Carol could get close to her, Daryl prevented her from running to her daughter. After this find, Daryl began to distance himself from the group. He was done looking out for these people given all of his efforts for Sophia. With the capture of Randall, he took out some of his frustrations on him, torturing him. Daryl steps in to help Rick when Dale is attacked by a walker to the point of not being saved. He is the one that executes Dale to end his suffering for Rick could not do it. Due to this, Rick began to see Daryl as his new wing man, someone to rely on. Before they can leave to take Randall out of the farm, he is found to be missing. Daryl joins in the group to find Randall only to be attacked by a walker, Randall. He inspected the body though found no bites. Shortly after this, the farm was overrun by a huge herd of walkers. Daryl managed to escape with the rest of the group on his motorcycle. Later on that day, the remaining group survivors made camp in the woods where Rick revealed killing Shane and the truth. Everyone is infected even without being bitten. Carol tried to convince Daryl to lead though he refused, saying he trusted Rick. Eight months later, they stumble upon the prison, securing it as their safe haven for the moment.
